This week chef Greg Baxtrom’s new Brooklyn restaurant Olmsted was highly praised and awarded 3 stars by restaurant critic Ryan Sutton for Eater.
About this watermelon sushi Ryan writes, “Baxtrom takes thin slices of Long Island fluke and paper-thin rounds of confit lemon, wraps both around pinky-sized sticks of the crimson melon, and finishes it all with fleur de sel. The sugars from the fruit, when mixed with the tart citrus and the high-end salt, electrify in the mouth; it’s like a high end Sour Patch Kid.”
In today’s Food section of the New York Times I photographed a few of the examples of restaurants serving prime rib, including the lead image. I photographed both at Burger & Barrel and Mission Chinese Food. If you’re into prime rib as a cut of steak I think you’d be pretty pleased with either place and their offering.
This was the lead image shot at Burger & Barrel of their prime rib with all the sides and sauces.
One of my favorite meals of 2014 was at Cosme, a beautiful new Mexican restaurant in New York City. I had dinner here once and was really impressed from the fresh crudo dishes we had to the meticulous made tortillas. The duck carnitas presented here was photographed for the review that you can see here on Eater. I’m excited to try this place again and definitely would love to go photograph there again.
I realized the other day that I haven’t been using this website www.danielkrieger.com very much lately. Over the past 2 years I’ve really been focusing my energy on food photography and have in turn been booking less weddings and referring them to other photographers. I haven’t taken any weddings for 2015 but who knows, I’m not opposed to doing the right one when something cool comes along (anyone getting married someplace like Bali feel free to hit me up!). But I figured I should mention my food photography here more often since I’ve had this blog for a few years now and I never use it. You can see a lot of what I’ve been photographing the past year and see some articles about me on www.NYCFoodPhotographer.com
I don’t want to remove all these wedding images I’ve made through the years so until I figure out a solution I’m going to keep this blog in tact and you can scroll through images below to see mostly wedding work over the past few years. Maybe I will post some new food posts when I can here. I really enjoyed all those weddings I photographed and working with all of these beautiful couples.
I’ve been having a great ride this year meeting a ton of new people through the photography world. If you know me personally you know I’m a bit obsessed right now with my @danielkrieger instagram. That’s where you can see what I’m up to both in my travels and photography. The community of talented, driven, enthusiastic people using this instagram tool is amazing. I feel that I’m currently making some of my best images using my iPhone and posting to instagram. In 2014 I saw an image I photographed on the cover of the dining section of the New York Times that I took with my phone.. that seems crazy to me but I love it!
I’ve also have a new found love for my girl Lady J. She’s such an amazing talent and has taught me more than anyone I know. Here’s a few random food photos from shoots this year and I’m excited to see what 2015 holds.
I took this cute couple out for an engagement session a few weeks ago, before the weather turned cold. We managed to create some great images together around Brooklyn, here’s a few of my favorites from our photo shoot. I’m looking forward to their wedding this summer, congrats to you both Ara and Reg!
